The most used word when cooking, could be the word pie. A pizza pie, a fruit pie, a chicken pot pie. But last night I made a spaghetti pie. Yes, there is such a thing. I have seen this recipe on my FB Italian cooking group and decided to make it my own.
The kids thought this idea was great and creative. My husband was just a little skeptical, but was happy after biting into it. Want a recipe to impress a new mom who you are bringing dinner, or a church pot luck, or maybe even your local bunko group? This is THE ONE!!
Spaghetti Pie
1 pound of spaghetti
Parmesan Cheese
Oregano
Sauce
1/2 stick of butter
Basil
Diced Garlic
Breadcrumbs
1/2 bag of Mozzarella Cheese
2 eggs
Olive Oil
Ground Beef (optional)
Start by heating up your sauce or making fresh sauce (this is what we do in our house). Then throw in the spaghetti to cook, I keep mine al dente. Drain the pasta and then add a drizzle of olive oil to the pasta so it does not stick. Now start a small pan with a splash of olive oil, diced garlic, oregano, basil, and 1/2 stick of butter and let it simmer for 2-3 min.
Meanwhile grab your springform cheesecake pan or a round deep dish, and spray it or grease it. Then sprinkle a layer of breadcrumbs to coat the bottom.
Now crack and mix the eggs and add in the parm cheese. Dump that into the spaghetti, and then dump in the olive oil/butter combination. Now spoon in the pasta into the pan, dump the sauce over the top, then top it with mozzarella cheese, and sprinkle with oregano. You can add in ground beef if you would like. (I left it out because it was good Friday, I would put the meat in with the sauce).
Now throw in the oven on 350 for about 25-30 min. Take out when ready and let it sit for a few minutes. Release the springform pan and you now have a spaghetti pie. If you used a deep dish, do the plate/flip tactic.
